Two Duke University lacrosse players charged with raping and kidnapping a stripper at a party are now free on bond. Reade Seligmann and Collin Finnerty will be back in court May 15th. Both were arrested early this morning after being 
(1)indicted by a grand jury yesterday.
A 19-year old Dutch man arrested in the Natalee Holloway case may also face charges of selling drugs, the man (2)identified only by his initials "G.V.C." made his first appearance in Aruban court today.

Much has been written and many films made about the US Civil War --- often over (1)romanticized .
The economic and political (2)factors that caused the southern plantation-based states to secede from the Union were (3)complex . Certainly little plan or preparation ever made for such a war by either side.
The first blood was (4)shed when a Baltimore mob attempted to (5)halt Massachusetts troops bound for Washington on April 19th, 1861.
The Southern Confederacy, which could not match the industrial (6)strength of the North, had hoped that Britain and France might (7)intervene . But when President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation --- the (8)conversion of a largely political and economic struggle into a (9)crusade against slavery, made such intervention (10)unthinkable .
